favorite thing to do!
My family is small but tight knit. I've got three sisters: Kelli, Jaclyn, and Caitlin. I'm closest with my youngest sister Caitlin. My mother and father got divorced when I was two, and all us children grew up with our father. I still maintain a great relationship with my mother, though!
I'm usually pretty tired from work, that I don't typically participate in a lot activities outside of work, but that said, I do bowl on a league - and have for over 11 years. It gives me a good reason to meet up with friends and be a little competitive!

Something I'm passionate about is working in some facet of Law Enforcement. I'm currently testing for a 911 dispatcher position, and am looking into different police departments to find a good fit to become a police officer. I'm passionate about this because my grandfather was a WA State Trooper for over 20 years, and I've always wanted to follow in his footsteps.
Well, being single and living alone; I'm not really too sure what "job title" to give myself.
One of my personal heroes is my Dad. We didn't have the best or the wealthiest upbringing, but there was always food on the table, clothes on our backs, and a roof over our head. Growing up you don't really think much about the sacrifices your parents make for you. As I've gotten older now, I can truly understand and respect everything that my father did for us. He's always believed that his kids come first, and he goes out of his way to make sure that that happens. Still to this day when we're all grown.
Another of my personal heroes is Pete Carroll, Head Coach of the Seattle Seahawks. I really admire his coaching ability. He came in to not much of a team, and in a few short years got the team on the right track. He really believes that his unique way of coaching is the best, and I would tend to agree. He's out there with those guys day in and day out giving his all and the players see that and respect that.
I chose this image to show how I feel about life right now. It's not perfect, it's a little dirty and rough around the edges. I really like where I am in life right now. I feel like I'm truly making great steps towards my life goals. After a recent diagnosis of a chronic medical condition, I'm really beginning to see how beautiful life actually is, imperfections and all.
In 5-10 years I see myself in a fulfilling career in a law enforcement/support position. As well as settled down with a husband and a child. I guess it's a little cliché, but I've always wanted a traditional family/career/house kind of thing. My dream life would be the same as the 5-10 years from now, but I'd also have some toys to fill the garage, one of them being an Audi RS6 Avant. I guess what would be different vs. my current life would be that I would be financially stable with a great paying career, I have a loving husband and two children.
I would live somewhere just on the outskirts of Seattle in a more rural location where my closest neighbor is at least a half mile away. I've never been a fan of the congestion of big cities, and prefer the slower pace of life out in the boondocks.
I would work to support my family, and would be making enough for my husband to stay at home and raise the kids. But my work schedule would be decently light 3-4 days a week so that I too could be there to raise my children.
I guess the aspects that I feel the most in control over, at the moment, would be my health, and the security of my home. I feel that way because of my recent diagnosis of a chronic medical condition. Which requires frequent doctor visits, and really watching what I eat. Since the diagnosis I've changed how I eat, and have started working out. I've lost 25 pounds and 4 inches off my waist in about a year now.
I have a strong sense of security about my home because I've recently acquired a SimpliSafe home security system with 24 hour monitoring. It truly provides peace of mind while I'm sleeping, or away from home. The best part about it, is I don't have to do much to get that feeling. The system couldn't be easier to use.
One thing that I do truly feel vulnerable about is also my health due to my condition. Although I'm frequently seeing the doctor, the long-term side effects of the medications I take are very harsh. In the short-term there are no noticeable side effects. However, the medication is something I will take for life, and I am worried about what life will look like 10-20 years from now. As best I know, there isn't much I can do to mitigate the long-term effects, and as such, can't really do anything to gain a greater sense of control.

Hello Chance,
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you and thank you for getting your blog up and running! My name is Allison and I’ll be reading and commenting on your blogs throughout this project, posting any follow-up questions in the Comments section. A couple of questions for you:
- How would your friends describe you?
- Looking ahead 5-10 years when you see yourself settled down with a husband and child, what role or "job title" within your own household do you envision yourself having?
Thank you, and I look forward to reading your next blog!
My friends would describe as being outgoing, a joker, someone that they could turn to when they need help with something technical like a computer.
ReplyDeleteLooking ahead, I guess the role I would see myself taking within the household would be the head of household and hopefully earning enough from work so my spouse would be able to stay home with the kid(s).
Thanks!
DeleteHi Chance, A few more follow-ups for you:
ReplyDelete-What appeals to you about being a police officer (besides the fact that your grandfather was one)? What does that say about you?
-You say life is "a little rough & dirty around the edges" but that's ok. Love that reference - tell me more about what you mean by that?
-Tell me more about why you want to live in a more rural location more than 1/2 a mile from any neighbors? What drives this desire?
Thank you!
I think the most appealing thing about being a police officer, is being able to affect change in the community you work. Another big point is that no two days are alike, every day brings on new challenges. A job that isn't monotonous is something very high on my priority when seeking new work.
ReplyDeleteWhat I mean by that is that from a distance, life looks great! But! As you get closer you start to see some of the imperfections. Life isn't always what you want it to be, and its really about making the most of any situation you're in.
What drives me to seek a more rural area to live, is I don't really care for the hustle and bustle of big cities. I'd much rather look at fields filled with evergreens, and mountains in the background, than live in a high rise apartment and look at a concrete jungle all day.
